Erectile dysfunction (ED) is one of the most common sexual disorders in men. The prevalence of ED varies by age and gender. The prevalence of ED among the general population is about 4.2% among older men and 0.6% among younger men. The prevalence of ED among the general population is higher in women (1.3%) than men (0.5%) (P = 0.0015). In a recent survey conducted by the National Institutes of Health, a total of 6,764 women were diagnosed with ED. The results of the current study were similar to those of the previous survey conducted by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and showed that there were a few women with ED who have a greater frequency of sexual dysfunctions (ED) and a significant proportion of them had a higher prevalence of ED among the general population. The incidence of ED is increased among older men with a greater proportion of ED among the general population. The results of the current study were different from those of the previous survey. The results of the current study showed that ED was not related to sexual behaviors and sexual satisfaction of the general population. The results of the current study may help to inform policy recommendations and practice of treating ED in this population.
To determine the frequency of sexual dysfunctions in the general population and to examine their incidence among women aged 50 and over. Methods
This was a cross-sectional, random-effects, cross-over study design. The study population was selected from the general population, as the prevalence of ED among women aged 50 and over is higher in women aged 50 and over than in men. The study population included women of 50 and over with a body mass index (BMI) of 27.0 or more and who have a diagnosis of ED. The study population was randomly selected from the general population. The inclusion criteria were age of 50 and over and a BMI of 27 or more. Exclusion criteria were a history of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, smoking, obesity, or smoking with obesity and diabetes. The study population was enrolled in a waiting room at the University Hospital of Barcelona, Spain. The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the University Hospital of Barcelona (reference number: 14-0071). All participants signed the informed consent form before the study. The study was conducted between September 2012 and March 2013. The study was registered in the ClinicalTrials.gov ().
The study was designed as a single-arm, random-effects, cross-over, 2:1 design. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either 25 mg, 50 mg, or 100 mg of sildenafil (Viagra) daily or placebo, or to receive the study drug for the first two weeks. The study was carried out in two phases: the first phase was a double-blind, random-effects, cross-over, 2:1 design. The placebo group received sildenafil daily or placebo for the first two weeks and then received sildenafil daily for the next two weeks. The treatment group received sildenafil daily for the first two weeks and then sildenafil daily for the next two weeks. The primary outcomes of the study were sexual dysfunctions (ED), and the secondary outcomes were body mass index (BMI) and the incidence of ED. A computer-generated randomization sequence was used for the analysis. The study was carried out in the hospital setting. The protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the University Hospital of Barcelona (reference number: 14-0071).
The study population included women aged 50 and over with a BMI of 27 or more who had a diagnosis of ED.
The statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS version 16.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). The data were expressed as mean and standard deviation. The baseline characteristics of the study population and the incidence of the following sexual dysfunctions were compared by descriptive statistics.

Pfizer, the pharmaceutical company that developed Viagra (sildenafil), has (MHRA) to reclassify it’s erectile dysfunction (ED) drug from prescription-only to ‘P’ (Pharmacy). This would allow pharmacies to sell sildenafilover the counterwithout a prescription.
The application is forsildenafil 50mg onlyin a maximum pack size of 8 tablets. Sildenafil tablets are available on prescription in strengths of 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg in pack sizes of four and eight tablets.
The move follows the in 2013. After the patent expired other pharmaceutical companies, apart from Pfizer, have been allowed to produce ED tablets made for small and medium-aceutical patients over the next decade.
The application has support from the pharmacy manufacturer, base on the hypothesis that ED patients who take Pfizer’s ‘Sildenafil Tablet’ (50mg) may be less likely than patients who take other tablets to have erection problems. P’s were supplied as a guideline for clinicians (not patients).
The MHRA question answers call for patients to be prescribed sildenafil tablets, which are designed to be taken on an as-needed basis over the previous regime of 2 daily treatments. Patients must to consult with their doctor to ensure they are taking sildenafil tablets who will determine if they are suitable for the as-needed form of sildenafil treatment. The pharmacist can help the doctor determine whether sildenafil tablets are suitable for patients. The 12-tablet ED treatment pack contains up to 80 tablets, with the tablets carrying the higher doses.
The applicant is recommending a generic application ( GPA) that would preserve the 50mg strength for patients who are suitable for the 50mg, and only 25mg strength for patients who are not suitable for the 50mg strength.
The current recommendation is to the Pharmacist.
